“what remains” is a still-life painting comprised of objects belonging to my late father. After his passing my family kept a lot of his personal items. In keeping and preserving these items they were able to remind us of the person that my father was when he lived.
Our possessions, individually and when collated, are able to create a portrait of the person we are and our experiences. This painting explores my own grief and my memory of my father. The objects have been collated digitally then painted in oil. The distorted colours and painting style create a sense of nostalgia and melancholy.
